Working With Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ABC7, December 21, 2006
Children's party planner Ruth Princess always thought she was different, but didn't know why.  Until she discovered, as an adult, that she had ADHD.  Ruth's discovery coincided with her decision to leave the corporate world to become a party planner.  Princess says, "My attention span and the children's attention span is really the same. In 45 minutes we'll do a variety of games and all of them might last only five minutes each. And that just fits perfectly."

"They start with a short story which builds anticipation for the activities.  The child opens the chest or trunk or box, which is filled with costumes and accessories.  We do individual photographs, and the families get a free Web site with their hosted party. They can print pictures directly from their computer." she [Ruth Princess, owner] says.

At Princess and Pirate Parties, a Western Springs-based children's party planner, DIY treasure hunts are a fun option for kids.

"I recently ordered the game for my daughter's 4th birthday party, and the kids had a blast," said Sarah Delavan. "It included a set of instructions and clue cards that centered around my daughter. The whole thing was really well-organized and easy to follow, so I didn't feel like I needed someone there hosting the party."

"I characterize Shelby's birthday party as 'the only thing I have ever done right as a mother.' This is an exaggeration and self-deprecating humor but it gets the point across. Shelby still talks about it, as do some of the little girls' mothers. Please contact me next November as I get ready for her 5th birthday -- something tells me she will want the same thing."

"Ruth, Thanks for doing such a great job with the Hannah's web page. I am send you along another picture of Hannah's Uncle Bob, who really enjoyed the party too. If it is not too late, I think it would be cute to put him on the page for Hannah to view. I wrote to Robin and told her about what you did and she can hardly wait to get home this evening to show Hannah and her friends. Ruth, you are amazing!!! The idea that you can make so many little one's dreams come true and also making the parents, aunts, uncle and grandparents relive the happy times.
THANK YOU! RUTH

"My mother alerted me to the fact you had added more photos to the web-site of Hannah's YMCA party. It is just precious. I can't wait to show her. She loved it the first time and asked, "were those princesses really there at the party?" You truly are talented. Feel free to use me as a reference if you ever need."

"We're repeat customers from Georgia.  Last year you did a beautiful custom scroll Dora invitation for my daughter Mytchell.  This year we're doing a Circus theme and I was thinking of doing something like a circus announcement with a separate ticket that hopefully could include a picture of Mytchell on it.  Please send ideas.  Thanks again for your help."
"Sorry I didn't reply, it's been crazy.  But I saw the proof and we can just use the picture from last year.  I was hoping to get her school pictures back but they haven't come in yet.  But I think they look great as is.  As always love your work."

"One final question, are the princess tunics the same as it appears in the photo on your website or do they vary in style?  I just want to prepare myself for what they look like before they arrive in the mail next week.  Also, should I be disappointed in the quality of the tunics, am I able to return them for a refund?  I notice that the 100% refund policy is only for items not yet shipped.  I understand that I would have to except the shipping fee, of course.  Again, thank you! ~ Virginia"
"They appear too good to be true and I look forward to seeing them in person.  I, agree, the price is incredible – from the photo, you can’t beat a party favor like this!  Thank you, again … ~ Virginia"
"Dear Ruth - I received them yesterday and opened the box this morning – I love them!  They are perfect and will make my daughter’s 4th birthday party, PERFECT, absolutely perfect!    The colors of the princess dresses next to the silver Knights tunics are fabulous!  My photos will be great…  Thank you, again, for all your help and have a nice week off (per your email!).  Virginia"
